I love summer, and I love to see the end of it. By the first of September, I have my polo-neck, loafers, and flat white at the ready- welcoming the golden hues of autumn in London with open arms. The stark contrast between seasons in London is something I cherish- Even if you’re not quite ready to let the summer go, you cannot deny that those September mornings simply feel different. The humidity is zapped from the air, and in its place is a wave of freshness or better yet, the hint of burning wood somewhere in the distance.

While many of my peers flock to Ibiza or other high-temped hotspots to extend their summertime, I’m embracing autumn in London, because from the crisp mornings to the darkened evenings, there’s simply no better place to be. So without further ado, here are my five favourite, wholesome ways to spend autumn in London.
Autumn in North London: Muswell Hill
To begin, hop on a bus to Muswell Hill. The 43 to Friern Barnett is my route of choice, but of course it depends on the direction you’re coming from. From here, you can see some gorgeous views of the city, as well as feast in some glorious brunch spots. I’d personally recommend Bob’s, specifically the sweetcorn fritters. This is typically quite a wealthy area, so if you have a browse through one of the charity shops you may get lucky with a very special find.
Following that, you can take a leafy walk through Alexandra Park and take in the views of London’s skyline. Muswell Hill is also situated within walking distance of Highgate Woods, and you can only imagine how beautiful this trail is during the autumn.

Autumn in East London: Broadway Market
An energising hustle and bustle without the stampedes of Columbia Road, Broadway Market is the hotspot that TikTok is yet to ruin. Just off London Fields is a street lined with continuous stalls of food, handmade jewellery and more food. Not to forget the scented candles, homemade soaps and the other typical unnecessary yet irresistible offerings of a local market. It’s a dreamy place to spend a Sunday- a gluten-free glazed donut from Floris Bakery, followed by a stroll through London fields.

But it doesn’t stop there- in fact, the best is yet to come. After a ten minute walk, you will arrive at London’s best hidden gem- Hackney City Farm. If a wholesome day is what you’re after, it doesn’t get much better than this. An oasis right in the middle of a city, filled with typical farm animals from (very animated) goats to pigs rolling in dirt.
Autumn in Central London
Every so often it’s important to remind ourselves that we live in one of the most desirable cities in the world. A trip into central London to experience the city like a tourist will do exactly that. London offers so much more than cozy pubs- as tempting as they may be. I’d highly recommend the Kit Kat Club’s cabaret show in Holborn or a last minute, discounted theatre ticket at TKTs London. If neither of those tickle your fancy, apply for a seat at a fashion show- you could get lucky!

Autumn in South-West London
Finally, take a day trip to Richmond. If you’ve never seen Ted Lasso, some of the references scattered around the town may go over your head. However, Richmond’s link to this beloved series is far from all it has to offer. Hop on the overground and in less than an hour you’ll arrive from central London. From here, a day jam-packed with wholesome activities is in store. Go deer-spotting in Richmond green, rent a boat for £12 an hour and row along the river, explore the narrow alleys like Brewers lane. When it’s time to refuel, The White Cross is an iconic pub that fames itself on regularly getting flooded from the river, as well as offering delicious seafood and Sunday roasts.
